MX Custom Tabs allows you to create a custom tabs and link them to the custom fields.
For example I choose the situation when a weblog for the news page has fields both in English and French. e.g. English is a major language for publish page. If the author decides to add text for French language, he will need to open another tab.
If you will have any issue or bugs or request for new functionality, feel free to send me a note and I will help you ASAP.
p.s. the next ext. which I plan to present to EE community in the future, is a new fieldtype - MX theLinker. At the moment, you can see some screenshots for the better understanding how it would be looked like.
Hi Max,
Wow!! That’s a really neat extension you’ve made there. Been wanting something like this for ages now. If I had any idea at all of how to re-work the control panel with an extension then I would have attempted this myself but alas no knowledge in that department. It’s really really great this one, well done and thanks for sharing.
The (MX) theLinker looks and sounds like a great add-on too, can’t wait to try that one out also.
Best wishes,
Mark
Great stuff!
I haven’t had a chance to try this out, but a good feature (you may already have this, Max) would be to somehow make these tabs compatible with Stand-Alone Entry Forms (SAEFs). I’m managing multiple-language content, too, and it’s a real pain when the SAEFs come into play.
The extansion was update.
Mark Bowen Thanks! Most part of theLinker is ready because his main functionality I take from MX UniEditor (LinkManager). So now I just working on functionality for relationships and couple UI mode. I create it as free alternative for BK Playa / Solspace Related Entries.
ira42 I’m glad to know that my ext. helps you. If you have something that you think need to change or add to ext. – just send me a note. And I recommend that you to download the new version.
Brendon Carr unfortunally, I don’t have the same ext. for SAEF :( But I add this question to my free-time-tasks and will investigate it.

All I can say is, that is exceptionally kind of you. Definitely looking forward to trying that one out.
Have a great (what’s left of the) week.
Best wishes,

Oooh, Max. I tried it out. I love it.
How I am using it is to help “massage data” brought in to Expression Engine from a 10-year old site. This involves creating a bunch of custom “import fields” to accommodate the older data. The original “imported fields” are kept behind their own tab, so they don’t clutter up the Publish/Edit interface.
One thing that would be great is if we could somehow re-order the tabs. I’d like to put a tab directly after Publish if it were possible.
Thanks Max!
This extension looks like a dream come true!!!
But it doesn’t appear to work with Gypsy fields. Which is a huge shame! 😛
Any chance of a fix?
It might not be possible but if the fields could be spaced out a little and maybe inside the box like the other tabs to show they’re related?
Thanks for awesome extension!
I’m thinking of trying this out but plan to upgrade the site to 2.0 sometime. Do you plan a 2.0 version? or Is it easy to undo the Custom Tab feature if not wanted?
I’m about to try and undo Gypsy Fields on a site so I can upgrade to 2.0, but that requires editing the database directly. I am thinking that Custom Tabs could be an alternative to Gypsy Fields to keep the Publish/Edit pages user friendly.
Paul Frost Do you plan a 2.0 version? yes, in my plans to release a couple new ext. before Feb 1st, and after that I will take a week or two for add EE2 support for my old extensions.
Is it easy to undo the Custom Tab feature if not wanted of course - Custom Tab is only modify the page on output step, not the internal structure of data. So you can disable it wherever you want. Gypsy has another mechanism.
Regarding alternative – MX Custom Field Access is more close to the Gypsy functions. You can create the big field group and just hide field which you don’t want to display per weblog. I’m planning to make in next v. settings templates support in extension setting for fast configuration and more close integration with Custom Tab (lockwesmonster reguest).
Thanks Max I’ve looked at MX Custom Field Access (the url is missing from your link) and that looks promising. I’m now realising the problems of using 3rd party solutions and upgrade issues, so am trying to ensure that enhancements I do now are undo-able.
I take it there are no issues with FieldFrame fields (although that’s another barrier in the upgrade process)?
