This sounds like a great module but I was wondering, is there anyway of targeting groups of people in a mailing list based on their interest?
I have a need for this kind of thing at present but as far as I can see there’s no way of doing this in ExpressionEngine at the moment.
e.g. when a user signs up they are asked to select their interest - art/music/theatre/etc - they can then select one or more interests. Future mailouts are then targeted at recipients based on their interests.
Is there a way of achieving this at present using standard functionality/this module/other third party modules?
If not, how likely is it that this could become possible in the future?
all the best,
Chris
@gamma - they’re saying that at the moment not yet, but in the new version, 1.1 (due mid fall kinda time) that (and other) functionality will be included. If that can be integrated with @cc000001’s request for targeting mailouts dependent on interests, or other submitted info (without duplicating to people on several checked interests), Boomerang will be absolutely phenomenal!
just a quick thought/idea: a nice feature would be if you could email members that haven’t been visiting the site for X-months. You see it often with forums: Hi username, we have missed you on our forum lately… etc
Now I have to do a custom query, export/import users to a mailing tool etc…
Just wanted to post a huge thank you to Jack McDade who spent a considerable time sorting out issues with the cron script and another issue we had. 1st class service all round, could not have asked for better.
Get the cron script documentation and path bugs fixed and you have a real winner 😊

Glad to help! We will definitely have cron script documentation. We realize that not everyone has had the pleasure of traveling down into the seedy underbelly of automated php processes, so we’ll do our best to give the best tips possible.
The paths were, I’m sorry to say, not on the Boomerang side 😉 But glad to help you sort them out regardless!
Stay tuned for 1.1! Only a few days away!
Actually meant the cron script paths on CentOS 😊 but as I said excellent service.
One point there possibly should be a way to delete mail from the reports if required. The mail does not show up in the standard mailing module so can not be deleted from there. Just a though but really just nitpicking a superb product.
Email won’t send unless the cron job is setup on the server. I think we need to update the documentation to reflect this. The cron job is required though.
I haven’t used cron too much but isn’t it for scheduling tasks, i.e., you have to set it up with a schedule that it works by? What if you don’t want emails set to send on a schedule? Or does the boomerang_cron/cron_me.php script not send emails unless told to via the CP?
I seem to be having a few problems. I’ve added the cron, but still no emails are being received (although Boomerang tells me they’ve been sent) when sending to a mailing list. Also when I go to View Past it says ‘There has not been any trackable emails sent yet’ - is that because none have been received and opened?
Also, when creating emails from a template, this is getting added to my code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/tinymce/tiny_mce.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.2.6/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.5.2/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>which I assume is to do with the WYSIWYG editor, but does that get sent out with the email?
And when sending a test email, {unsubscribe} isn’t converted into a link; is that the way it’s supposed to work?
Also, just a small UI comment: it might be good for the Create New link to go to a page like on the dashboard where you can choose to send from template, a blank email or a past email, rather than defaulting to sending a new blank email. It took me a little while to figure out when first clicking the link that the body of the email didn’t get automatically merged with the template (as it does if you use the Multiple Mailing List extension). And a link to the templates from the main nav would be good too, as if you’re editing templates, when you’ve made one edit, you have to return to the dashboard if you want to make any more edits to different templates.
