when I don’t specify a text based newsletter the subject is not beeing filled out. and I can’t see statistics, cause there’s no title to click on… that’s when I put no text or whatsoever in the Text Version field…Not sure what you’re saying here. You need to send both an html and text version of your email for maximum deliverability. If someone is receiving that text email, however, you won’t get full stats on it as there’s no HTML. You won’t get open rates or (i believe) click rates either. What exactly are you referring to when you mention “There’s no title to click on…”?
I am referring to the reports page -> the subject is not there, and therefor it’s not clickable! (see image)
is there a way to generate an automatic Text version of the email?Unfortunately no one’s been able to perfect taking an html email with images and conveying the same message with plain text. You can copy and paste the output of your html’s text for a start, but if you want to make sure you’re hitting the full impact, you should really tailor every email. We can, however, look at making the text version optional for those who don’t want to mess with it.
I was looking for a plain text template… copy pasting on automatic cron based newsletters is not an option, or is it? some options would be nice: normal, without plain text or plain text template.
and what should I specify as doctype?HTML emails shouldn’t contain a doctype, they should start with <body>. CSS should really be all inline for maximum compatibility across email clients. Check out http://campaignmonitor.com/css for some tips.
thanks. the campaingn monitor links are invaluable!
will I be able to use solspace’s user module in conjunction with boomerang aswell? Not at this time. We’re planning a partner module for personalization of emails.
oh yes please! can you give an approximate timeframe?
I would like to give the user an option to change his email address… it this hard to implement? or should we wait for an EE native solution? This is currently limited to native ExpressionEngine controls as it uses the built-in Mailing List module.
maybe the subscription will be modifiable with you new module?
Thanks a lot, your answers help a lot!
Will this be ported to EE2? If so, do you have a general timeline as to when to expect it? Also, if someone did buy this initial 1.x version if they wanted to upgrade to an EE2 version would there be a fee?
We’re planning on porting Boomerang to EE 2.0, yes. We don’t have a timeline, however. As soon as we can accurately estimate the amount of time it will take, we’ll try and set a target in the sand so people can plan accordingly. I believe the email class is quite a bit different in EE 2.0, and as such may result in having to rewrite large portions of logic. We’ll see!
hi there,
although I haven’t really used you module I have a question:
is it possible to limit the start_on parameter to the previously sent newsletter? like this:
{exp:weblog:entries weblog="newsletter" start_on="{previous_newsletter_send_date} etc...this would be particularly helpful with automatic newsletters. so is there a way to pull that info somehow?
cheers stefan
looking forward to your upcuming modules! please hurry 😉
I am having several issues with reporting. They dont seem to match up with the recipients. e.g. I sent and email to a ist with 5 recipients, it listed each recipient 5 times in the opened list.
Another, I clicked on the unopened list for another email, the report dashboard says 8 handnt opened, yet clicking to see who says “Hey Congrats, you must be an email master for everyone hath opened your email.”
I am coming across several issues like this across reporting.
Does anyone see the same?
To all – due to a number of circumstances, we are unfortunately closing up shop on Boomerang. We’re bringing it exclusively in-house a service we offer, and as such, will not be able to sell new licenses. To all who have already purchased a copy, we will continue to support you with bug fixes or tips or whatever you need to keep going, but there will be no new features or licenses available.
You can direct any questions you might have to help [at] smoothfunction.com and we can go into further detail if necessary. We’re glad we were able to build this module and have really been thankful for the community response to it. Rest assured, you’ll hear from Tom and I again with other cool stuff soon, in one shape or another. We still have some free plugins and bits on SmoothFunction.com if you have need.
Take care – we’re not gone, only this module is 😊
