I know an integrated system is alway ideal but in the case of a ecommerce package integrated or not… does it really matter? hmmm… I guess users would only have to register once… Their preferences and personal information would only have to be entered once… what other tidbits would need to be shared by the two systems?

I have been looking for a good commerce solution with EE and the simplecommerce module just doesn’t cut it for my client base. I need a more robust solution that can be bridged. From the screenshots and roadmap it sounds appealing.

When can we EE users expect to see this integration happen for a bridge?

@marcusnetto: The great thing about EE (for me) is that I can fully tweak it to my design. During the last year I have learned a lot about how I can pull the most out of the EE possibilities. Going to a different Ecommerce solution and wanting the same flexibility usually means having to dig deep into the PHP (again) and learning the system behind it. With open source solutions this can be heavily frustrating and most of the time way to complex for just one project.

There are hosted solutions: you give the design to an eCommerce hoster and they pull it into the system, but those come at a different price tag and really tweaking it means lots of extra hours for the developers, driving up the budget.

So for me (and I think most others who put their time into learning to work with EE) it would be ideal if I could use it with my existing knowledge and also apply the same web-design and UI.

So the point lies more in budgets and dev time then the fact that you would have to log in twice (for me, that is)

Count me in as one who would like to see some integration between Magento and EE. Like others have stated we’ve been waiting for EllisLab’s Commerce Module which we know will rock cuz they put out great work. With that said, I know I would love the option to use Magento. No two commerce packages will cover everything the same. There will be projects that benefit from the deep integration that the Commerce Module will provide and there will be projects where some basic integration from Magento would be all that’s needed. I’m excited to give Magento a spin when it’s released.

Also, beautiful design on Magento’s website. 😊

I can say that we plan to integrate EE, which will drive MagentoCommerce.com soon, with our upcoming Magento Store that will sell Magento schwag.

How many of you out there would be interested in this? If we get enough response, we may add it to the roadmap.

    Reverse Psychology….

Please do not make an EE bridge to Magento. That would be an aweful thing to do, and I don’t think anyone here would have any use for it…

    :cheese:

While there is rabid demand for a full e-commerce solution, and we are all waiting, these alternatives seem to offer a stop gap between simple and full e-commerce.

    They are plug-in cart solutions:

    http://blinkcart.com (small monthly fee)
http://www.fatfreecart.com (free, with upgrade path to pro for small monthly fee)

I think I’ll be trying out blinkcart.

I’m definitely for a bridge with EE. Also think to the management of downloadable products and subscriptions to services.

Before we start talking about bridge to EE (which I’m all for), let’s worry about the tool getting out the door first. So far, it looks like a fantastic tool, and I’m definitely looking forward to giving it a spin.

Until then, back to Zen-Cart. And there was much rejoicing. yaaaay.

In case you missed it, we were asked in order to get it included to their roadmap.  If we show enough interests, we (EE Users) may see a bridge sooner than any other CMS.  Not to mention, it will be a bridge provided by Magento’s devs…

    Oh, how I hate Zen.

I hope someone comes out with a decent shopping cart system that can integrate with EE’s member module soon enough that I don’t have to reinvent the wheel on my next project…

My preference would be for the EE home brew, but not knowing when it is going to be available this Magneto option looks very tempting. It looks like it is really focussed on all the processes in operating a web store, returns, order processing, accounting, inventory control and not just the display of products in the front end. However much I am frustrated with my current system I do not think I will switch unless there is a way of integrating it with the EE membership system.

magento looks very promising! can’t actually wait to try it out. my main cms is still textpattern (love it but sadly still does not have an actual e-commerce solution just yet. one is going to be released within the week) but i’ve been looking at expressionengine more closely and this type of merger would be very persuasive.
