Ah ha, thanks Derek. I think I wasn’t logged in. I got a success message this time.

I’m extremely excited about the release of 2.0 and every week I get closer to getting my hot little hands on it.
I’m even toying with the idea of using 2.0 to re-build our company site.
I’m a big Drupal user but with 2.0 being built on CI and all, I will be using 2.0 regularly in client projects and personal projects as well.

I’m a newbie, but I’d love to test the beta…that way “reluctancy to change” won’t be a matter…
BTW: you guys should make more mugs and sell them. I’ve been known to have several mugs on my hands at the same time. I could make some space for more. 😊

What about evolving to Coffee Mugs 2.0? ...Getting tall, stainless steel ones with the EE logo and selling those?

There have been plans floating around for all kinds of EE schwag (mugs, hats, tshirts, the works) but with EllisLab being a distributed company fulfillment remains the issue that needs to be sorted out first. We know that the demand is there…

I only hope there is no company policy discriminating against drunks. Or suspected drunks.
Gog, I hope not!
It’s kind of funny that the survey gave you options for adding comments, but the applications doesn’t. My 300 word essay on why I’d make a great beta tester was completely wasted.

As to mugs and swag, there are thousands of ways to offer those online (Cafepress, etc…) but not one of the many we’ve investigated meets the quality standards for what we want to offer. Anyone who has a mug knows these are not the low-to-mid level quality mugs that you typically get from an online vendor. The *average* cost to us to make and ship one of these mugs is over $20.
I think if we released an EE Mug that cost $25-$35 on our store (not including shipping) we’d probably sell them but we’d also likely get a lot of bad press. We have to figure out how to reduce the cost and keep the quality.
As Ingmar pointed out, we are a distributed company with no physical office. Practically speaking that means there is no place for us to keep inventory and hire someone to track it/ship it. This means that we’d have to use a fulfillment company or rent space somewhere just for swag inventory.
The third option requires quite a bit of money up front and it requires double shipping if we want to use locally sourced, high quality vendors. IE, we have to pay for the vendor to make the mugs and ship them to the fulfillment company and then pay said company to ship it. Most local companies that produce high quality products are not setup to mail their items internationally at anything resembling a reasonable rate.
All of the above is surmountable (other companies have solved it in one way or another) and likely worth the effort. However, right now our focus is on refining how we make software and getting 2.0 out the door. Once 2.0 has shipped and we’re comfortable with “EllisLab 2.0” as it were, we’ll investigate a swag shop. For now our adventures with swag should be viewed as small investments that make the community happy and give us a low risk, high reward way of learning the physical shipping business without detracting from our primary business.

so what your saying is, that SHOP2.0 will be out before EE2.0 and you will be selling high end goods for bargin prices, with world wide delivery next day, and that you personally will be responsible for holding stock and fulfilment!!! I am happy to know every thing is under way 😉
I willing look forward to my EllisLab Branded MacBook at half price. 😉
I think that just about matches my impatience and expectations for EE2.0 release!!!
I don’t think i am being unreasonable - does anyone else!!!!

I’m going to charge you $100 dollars the first time we get a sales email with the subject: “EE Skymall Confirmed, when?”

@Leslie: I didn’t expect (want) to stir the swag poodle…sorry for that. I hadn’t realised the whole logistic mess that it’s involved to be able to sell some mugs with a shiny logo. Besides you’re right, you guys should focus on software…that’s what actually makes us happy… 😊

No worries! We get that question asked enough that I felt it was worth explaining what’s going on.
