Could Publisher be used for tracking page edits?

Could Publisher be used to make a site (financial/regulated) where edits to pages could be tracked, such that if they were audited, they could verify what text was on the page July 15th, etc etc? My gut is yes. because I think years ago I used Publisher but of course it faded out of memory
No it does not have detailed/persistent logging like that. It just adds a “last edited by” value. Logit can do it though, but it just saves a JSON object of what was saved, not necessarily what exactly was presented on the page.
You can do this natively as well using ‘versioning’. You have to turn it on for each channel, but it keeps a record of the previous version of the entry (up to a limit that you can set).

It then adds a ‘Revisions’ tab to the entry, which shows who edited the entry, and what time, and you can open it up again to see what text was there. https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/control-panel/create.html#revisions-tab
