Hello,
I’m using EE 7.5 and for some odd reason it started throwing a 404 error when I try to create an entry. I’m in the admin panel, hit new entry for the blog, fill it all in and when i hit save it gives me my 404 page and doesn’t save anything. Here is the path that my front end 404 pops up on .php?/cp/publish/create/4 - only happens on channel 4. All other channels work just fine.
What can be causing this issue?
Best Regards, Viktor
Yes it does sound like a mod_security issue as jelle mentioned. Suggest contacting your host with the time it happend (you can always add/edit the same entry to get a precise time), they should be able to look at their logs to see if a mod_sec rule is being triggered.
Any decent host can disable any affected rules for you, in my experience you may need to disable a few rules but that depends on the server. My own host keeps a list of affected rules for EE so if other customers have the same problem they have a reference.
Thanks for your input everyone. I’ll reach out to them and see what they say. But for now I got it working. When I paste as plain text into the rich text editor it saves it no problem. But if I copy and paste regularly (pasting with formatting) then it throws me that error. So I’m guessing something didn’t like something, so weird. Anyway worst case scenario is I will have to reformat the text in the text editor.
Yes sometimes cut and paste can insert hidden data that mod_security can find suspicious, apps like MS Word can be bad for that. I always advise clients to paste into a basic text editor first, then recopy/paste into EE fields and format as required.
When I copy and paste (with formatting), it throws that error. So I’m guessing something didn’t like something; very strange. Anyway, worst-case scenario, I’ll have to reformat the text in the text editor. Geometry Dash
