This issue is affecting nearly all our sites updated to EE 7 Pro.
After the update, websites are intermittently returning “Service Unavailable…” “…Additionally a 503 error has been reported” (Exact error text is at the end of this post).
This happens whether I am logged in or not to the CP (not sure if clients may be logged in) and from multiple IP addresses.
Servers are running Apache 2.4.57 on Linux OS.
PHP V. 8.0
Any help, insights would be greatly appreciated!!
I also have our web hosting support looking in to the issue, but being intermittent, they are having a tough time tracking it down.
Thank you!
Exact Error Text: Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Additionally, a 503 Service Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Gut reaction is that this is server related and not specifically EE related. Doesn’t look like a message from ExpressionEngine.
Hi! I wanted to follow up on this error in case others ever experience the same thing.
There were two things that helped us resolve this error:
1) PHP version needed to be set at v. 8.1 (changed from v. 8.0)
2) Reset of cPanel’s CageFS module (hosting company had to perform this reset)
We also increased the PHP memory limit from 768mb to 2gig. I am not sure if this change was required for the fix, but we did it to cover bases as the issue had persisted for a while before we found the leak in CageFS.
It is still odd that this only happened with EE version 7+. - Something to be aware of I guess. Not sure if it was just our Apache server setup or what, but happy the issue is resolved.
Otherwise we are lovin’ EE7!
When dealing with issues related to “EE 7 Causing security mod headers issues and 503 errors,” it seems you’re facing problems with an EE (ExpressionEngine) Geometry Dash Breeze CMS setup that might involve security modules, headers, and HTTP 503 errors.
