Category assignments not persisting

I have a strange but that only seems to happen when I assigned a particular subcategory (Analysis) to an entry.
If I edit the entry I can assign it to ‘Analysis’ - However when I go back into re-edit the entry, Analysis is no longer ticked.
However, as far as the front end of the site is concerned it is tagged - and this is reflected in the front end when accessing ‘Analysis’ category in the URL: LINKhttps://realdeals.eu.com/articles/category/analysis
Users claimed that the criteria for Category assignment rules were not being reviewed, were not functioning properly, or failed when the first item was created or generated in the Vault.
