It’s getting near time to retire the server that hosts ee 1.5.2
How do I painlessly get everything off it onto a new server or vps running the newest ee pro and linux?
Is this the answer?

Assuming yes and I get it working, then what to upgrade to the newest ee pro?
I dont see any docs here that go back that far.
Or am I better off starting from scratch and try importing the sqldb?
Its the 20 years worth of posts I dont want to loose.
Hi Steven! right of the bat: that can be challenging. But it’s certainly doable. I’d first update everything to the latest 1.X, from there update to 2.11.9 i believe it is and from there use the one click updater in EE7. I’ve recently updated one from EE 1.6.8 and that went rather smoothly. The ease of upgrading depends mainly on the addons that are in use.
If you’re looking to migrate your ExpressionEngine (EE) 1.5.2 installation to a new server or VPS running the newest EE Pro and Linux, the official documentation you mentioned. It’s is a good starting point.
However, since there might not be specific documentation for upgrading from EE 1.5.2 to the newest EE Pro version, you might need to follow a multi-step upgrade process mapquest driving directions.
