Fix Directory access is forbidden Error

How Do I?

1- I was setting-up upload directories from the CP > Files tab, then notice that the home page started to get this error:

‘Directory access is forbidden’ -on home page only.

Then I learned if I add the ‘index.php’ to my domain URL, the page loads.

http://shipbusters.com/index.php

2- I have learned now that EE v7 auto-created a directory structure resulting in duplicate directory names at the root (in this case named ‘assets’. I manually deleted from my FTP client, then I went into CP and deleted the associated upload directory in >Files Tab

3- Cleared Cache and tried to reload page via ‘http://shipbusters.com/’

Returned same error…

Any ideas on getting this working again?

Thanks for reading!

kindly, matt

Hi Matt,

It looks like if I add index.php back into your URL then the site is loading.

It looks like you’ll need to add a Apache Rewrite or similar for Nginx. After that it should resolve as desired.

Thanks,

Hey Tom,

Thanks for your reply.

I will try your recommendation.

…what would have caused this ‘change’ and suddenly throw this error after running smooth for weeks?

Kindly, matt

Update:

Did rewrite procedure and created .htaccess file ect.

Drops the ‘index.php’ on all pages and runs fine, but home page still throws the

Directory access is forbidden.

Hey Steve,

Can you share a little about your issue?

Looks like I will have to buy support and escalate this problem and clues you may have might be helpful.

Thanks

matt

The fix for my issue was the sys seemed to generate an index.html file in my root directory with “Directory access is forbidden.”

When I removed it, all works.

Thank Robin for her wisdom…took her no time to resolve 😉
