Can't find System folder

Hey all,
New to EE - I am trying to install an add-on but I can’t find the System folder to upload the add-on into. Where would I find this folder?
the simplest way to check is go to your index.php file and look for something like $system_path = './system';
I can’t find any folders. Would that be in the developer menu? edit menu?
you’re not going to see the System folder inside your Control Panel. You’ll need to FTP or SSH into your webserver to see your site’s files. can I ask what you are trying to achieve overall right now?
I am trying to create a simple photo carousel and thought I would try Nivo as an add-on. Unless there is a way to do it without an add-on
