Feature Requests

Love the EE6 feature of turning a website online / offline. Two minor annotations:

  • There is a small mistake in the help files on (https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/control-panel/settings/general.html#website-online) where it says to go to Templates -> Messages -> System Offline where at least in EE 6.2.3 it says Site Offline.
  • And just to verify: This feature is meant to be handled through this form only and then rendered on the fly, right? So there is no file / folder structure this is being rendered from. Because this way, I know I can use HTML and JS (and no PHP, which someone else already dealt with in another thread on this forum, but supposedly no linked files like CSS or images / assets. Just a thought … to make this a fixed user template maybe, because of the nice functionality of (1) the simple online / offline switch, (2) a full grown “landing page” while developing the site, (3) only showing super admins while logged in the site being developed.

I have enjoyed how this article presents the information in a clear and logical manner. This helps me get a deeper understanding of the topic without having to read it over and over again. slope

The website online/offline feature in EE is primarily a simple way to inform visitors when the site is temporarily unavailable. If you need more advanced functionality, custom design, or complex interactions during offline retro bowl periods, creating a custom HTML/CSS template for this purpose is a reasonable approach, although it may not be a built-in feature of EE itself.
