Looks like this was removed in v6. https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/installation/changelog.html#version-600-release-december-17-2020. Let me dig and get some more information around this for you and I’ll follow up (as well as update the docs 🤦♂️ )
After some research, I see where the confusion is.
So first, the docs do need to be updated. We had planned to handle this a different way and had docs written for that, but when we decided that wasn’t the right direction we closed the core PR and the docs PR. This left the docs not being updated at all. Docs PR: https://github.com/ExpressionEngine/ExpressionEngine-User-Guide/pull/238.
Signature settings can be controlled by the config overrides. Particularly looking at sig_allow_img_upload
[https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/general/system-configuration-overrides.html#sig_allow_img_upload] (https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/general/system-configuration-overrides.html#sig_allow_img_upload).
During testing as a non-admin, I found I was able to upload an avatar out of the box without issue. After enabling the above allow signature config override, I was also able to upload signature images.
I hope this helps.
Ahaa, thanks for the info on this one. Do I understand right that avatar handling is still there, in future releases somehow or will it be removed totally from members? Either way good to know if run into some situations where this might be problematic. For me atm there is no spesific needs to have avatar images in use. Again, thank you for clearing this!
