Unable to set field type for new fields, or change for existing fields

Hi all,
Using ExpressionEngine 6.2.7. Successfully installed it, and logged into the control panel. Created a new field group. Went to create a new field…
…and am unable to select a field type. The “Type” dropdown field won’t drop down.
I’ve tried using Opera, Firefox, and Chrome.
My database user has all permissions.
While I do use a lot of Text Input fields, I do use a few others, so this is kind of a blocker.
I deleted that site and database, did a fresh install, did NOT install the default theme this time…and there are still several things I can’t do.
- I can’t set a field name for a new field.
- I can’t associate a field group with a channel.
- I can’t associate ANY group with a channel.
- I can’t create new entries.
I’m hosted on a LAMP stack, PHP 7.3.2, MySQL10.2.37, DirectAdmin control panel. The EE Wizard said that I was totally set to install and run EE. My database user has all permissions.
I’ve submitted a ticket with my web host, but if anyone else knows any other troubleshooting steps, I’d appreciate the pointers.
I had a copy of v6.2.3 and tried installing that as well. Same issue. So this isn’t tied to a specific version.
