Apologies as I am fairly new to EE and could really do with some advice.

I’ve been struggling for a while to get a Third Party Addon to work in EE 6.

So I’ve downloaded a ‘Comment Status Variable’ add on, extracted it and uploaded it to the server in the folder system/user/addons/comment_status_variable.

This ‘comment_status_variable’ folder contains:

  • ext.comment_status_variable.php
  • | views (folder)
  • | language (folder)

When in the Control Panel the new addon isn’t showing in the Developer > Add on section, nor is it appearing under Tools > Utilities > Manage Extensions.

Please could somebody help and I’ve been going around in circles for hours.

Kind regards,

Mike.

Based on the files you listed you’re at least missing the addon.setup.php file - did you make this addon yourself or download it from somewhere?

Thank you for the fast reply.

It’s a pre-made Addon I downloaded from Devot EE.

Note that it’s marked on the devot-ee page as only compatible with EE2. There have been some significant changes to EE since then, including how add-ons work. It might be possible to make it work with EE6, but likely to be more trouble than it’s worth (not least because making it work even with EE2 seems to involve hacking some core EE code — see step 3 of the install).
