A site we’ve developed and have worked on for a couple years has gown to the point where we’re starting to hit the limits of ExpressionEngine’s capacity, or I should say MySQL’s capacity because of the way EE stores data.
Every new field added to a field group creates two new columns in the exp_channel_data table. We’ve added so many that we’re seeing errors like this when we try to add more:
SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1117 Too many columns:
ALTER TABLE exp_channel_data
ADD field_id_1105
text NULL
We’re currently using EE version 3.5.12. 3.x goes up to 3.5.16 and I don’t have much hope that they did anything to fix this problem in 3.x (or even if this is considered an actual problem by the developers).
Does anyone know if EE has restructured the way data is stored in later versions of EE so that it can handle more channel fields?
