Working on an EE3 site today the client needed extra fields/columns adding to an existing Grid field. Easy to do but the interface is now awkward, with them having to scroll rightwards to get to most of the fields!
Not ideal, as has been noted elsewhere.
Then it struck me, why not just stack the columns into one column, or have an option to do so? That would solve problems with clients inputting data into large grids.
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the feedback, it’s always appreciated! I know that for mouse users the horizontal grid field isn’t ideal. And I am working on a resolution for that. I have tried the stacked approach, and in my testing it felt worse, and a little more confusing.
I’m sorry that I don’t have a immediate solution for you, but rest assured I am trying to improve the UX for the grid field.
Being able to control the CP max-width as a setting would be helpful. If we know that an end-user is using a desktop and has the screen real estate. For dev I would like to open it up more.
I know some compromise/improvements were made for responsive, but we also used to layout fields into columns next to each other for optimal user input. Is that not still possible and just have them stack at a specific break point? I know height becomes an issue too, but just curious if you may already be working on something James.
