This isn’t as much of a feature request, as EE may already support MariaDB – several other comments have attested to it – but a request that EllisLab officially support MariaDB, particularly as it begins to branch away from the main MySQL branch maintained by Oracle, and adopts a different numbering scheme to indicate it isn’t going to support version-for-version what MySQL does. For instance, MariaDB can use the XtraDB and Aria db storage engines as alternatives to InnoDB. Are they supported? Will they be?
I guess it comes down to making decisions about hosting services. One of the ones I currently use can only get me past PHP 5.3.x by moving me to a platform that only uses MariaDB. So I’m either going to be deadended there, or have to move to a different hosting service if EE doesn’t officially support MariaDB as it branches away from MySQL.
thanks, -jim
