In case you haven’t read the EE blog lately, the Forums are going to be revamped and EE is going to get involved again, and with a new set of moderators, maybe this place can regain its former glory!
The ExpressionEngine Forums were once a bright point and central hub for the community. Known for being active, friendly, professional, and accessible to all. It’s no secret that they no longer have that reputation, and it’s our fault. When we changed our support model to scale and provide better support for our growing community, we (EllisLab) stopped participating in our own forums. The community followed our lead and abandoned the forums and fractured. Some set roots in Twitter, some in Stack Exchange, some now in Slack, and many others with no place to call home. It’s been a poor and inaccurate reflection on the product and the community. Our support model is working, customer feedback remains high, and we’re able to manage the load alongside growth. But the community deserves to have that bright and central hub, so we are returning to the forums. Not for our primary means of support, but for engagement, to answer non-support questions, to give guidance, and to moderate so that the forums remain professional, helpful, and friendly… Back to the Forums So we’re going to return to the forums and improve on the previously successful formula. We’re going to simplify them, add some great moderators, and archive stale content.
Yay! Looking forward to Nov. 17th.
The forums were where I first got a feeling for the EE community. I had some of my first conversations with ExpressionEngine developers I now know as friends right here in the forums. I think about EE people like Leslie, Shane, Mike, Robin, Dan, and many others who’re knowledgeable, courteous and helpful to me along my journey with EE and I hope that as I follow in their footsteps, I have opportunity to give back the same way they did for me.
Can I say that the link to these forums was hard to find? There’s a green button on the top right of the EllisLab Community page but it took me a while to notice it was there. It was a good thing I already knew how to access the forums directly.
Edit: never mind, there’s a link on the front page too.
