PHP errors when updating member group data

When I try to add Control Panel Access privileges to a member group I get several PHP errors (see below). After the update, the privileges display as updated (radio buttons show “yes”) but when I return to the list of member groups, the group is not one that is shown to have CP access (asterisk beside the group name)

Also when a member of that group tries to login to the control panel, a “You are not authorized to perform this action” error message is given.
