Ecrypting member email addresses in the exp_members table

Hello, I’m trying to vet EE for a new project and looking for suggestions on how to encrypt a member’s email address in the database so it’s not plain text. Has anybody done something similar? I’m thinking I can hook into the registration flow and encrypt the email address before creating the record in the DB and then decrypt when logging in. I’m just curious if anybody has any further suggestions or examples. Thanks!
