Problem about categories page to show image

How Do I?

Dear all member! EE 2.9.0 OK, so I’ve got a channel of products data and a list of categories within a category group. So far so good.

Products can appear in any of the categories so I need a page to show :-

1) A list of all the categories in the group using an image (easy enough if I use the category image field)

2) Individual category pages showing the products in them with a different category image at the top

So the issue I have is how do I reference a second image for each category and get it uploaded whilst there isn’t an extra ‘file’ fieldtype for customer category fields?

At present the only answer I have is to use the existing category image file uploader (or file manager) to upload both files and then pick one to show and put in a text field for the image name of the other and hope that no typos are made writing the image name in…

Are there any better solutions to this? Thank’s a lot! G9

Hi, i’m not really sure why you’d want to change your category image, but a solution could be to make a sub-cat for each parent category.

In your main page you show the parent cat only In your individual page, you show the sub-cat only.

Best regards.

I’m also not following the need for multiple category images.

Is it just that you need an image on a page that only shows a list of categories, then navigate to a category-specific page showing a category image and all entires in the category?

Is it just that one image on the first template you want to content-manage? What are the odds it will change? Might be easiest to hard-code it. Keep in mind the more things you content-manage the more complex the UI is. I started with EE over 10 years ago trying to content-manage everything right down to the text in the site footer, only to realize much of that content never changed and it was making the backend experience more difficult for my clients.

Having said that…

You may consider using relationships instead.

You would create a channel to act as your categories. Create as many fields in it as you need, then use a relationships field setup to allow multiples to assign products into a category.
