MSM using a file (image) across sites

I have an MSM installation with two sites. The two sites have the same content (using a channel from the default_site) but with different branding on the templates. This way we only have to enter and update product info in one place. Everything is working fine except I can’t figure out how to get channel entry images (file field) to display in a template on the site without the channels.
