How Do I?

SUMMARY: We use ExpressionEngine as the CMS for our nonprofit organization’s website. I’m designated as the Super Admin. When I was trying to delete a content item on our site this morning, for the first time I received an error message saying that I’m not authorized to do that. I tried several times to delete the content, then suddenly found myself unable to access the website at all (or the Control Panel) from my laptop.

  • I tried to access from my iPhone, connected to my home ISP WiFi, and same problem: unable to access the website at all (or the Control Panel).

  • I tried to access from my iPhone, connected to my mobile carrier connection, and success, I am amble to access both the website and the Control Panel.

MY CONCLUSION: apparently I inadvertently triggered an automatic ban on my home ISP IP address.

DESIRED OUTCOME: I need to remove the apparent IP address ban on my home ISP IP address.

STEPS I’VE TAKEN TO TRY TO RESOLVE:

  • Using my iPhone and mobile carrier connection, I’m logged into my Control Panel, and I don’t see anywhere to remove the ban on on my home ISP IP address.

  • The Blacklist/Whitelist module was not installed. So I installed it, and added my IP address to the Whitelist. That didn’t resolve the problem. I don’t see anywhere that I can remove the IP address from a blacklist.

  • I’ve researched via Google and in this forum, and I don’t see any info on how to resolve the problem.

QUESTIONS FOR THIS FORUM:

  • What steps do you suggest I take to remove the apparent IP address ban on my home ISP IP address?

  • Or, will the apparent IP address ban resolve itself after a set length of time, and I can just wait for it to resolve?

I would check with your website host that your IP has not been blocked by their firewall. It may not be EE that is doing it.

zackmorgan: you win the prize. Yes, turned out to be our web hosting company incorrectly flagged my regular activity, banning my IP address. Turned out to have nothing to do with EE. Thank you for the tip. One call to the hosting company, and it was resolved within minutes.
