Pages Module - Is it reliable?

How Do I?

Hi Everyone,

I have previously heard rumours to stay away from the built-in Pages module. From what I understand, devs often steered away from it during EE1’s time, and, for a while during EE2.

Has it had a big update since the problems it had in its early days? Does it conflict with any major plugins? Are people using it now? Have you experienced any issues? Is it still reliable? Is there an alternative third party plugin that does the same thing?

Thanks,

What do you intend to use it for? We use it for one off pages or temporary pages all the time without issue.

I would like to be able to do just that really, though I’ve heard rumours to explicitly stay away from it!

I’ve never heard of the Pages module being unreliable..but have seen people push it way past what it was ever designed to do. Structure did this for a time until they started creating their own tables rather than building on top of Pages.

But I’d suggest trying it yourself rather than relying on vague rumors without more detail provided.

Yeah I understand people have probably taken it to the limits, though asking a quick question on the forums doesn’t do any harm, where as spending time working on something that could be unusable & buggy could be.

I’ll give it a go, Thanks.

Fair enough…

I did do a writeup on the Pages module on Train-ee: http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/free-tutorials/comments/pages-module-1-an-introduction-and-history

Basically so long as you are using it for a few one-off out of navigation pages it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t go so far as to base my entire site navigation on it.
