Ah, simple commerce. I’m finding it not so simple.
First, I cannot for the life of me get this to piece of code work properly:
{if item_enabled == 'n'}
<strong>NOT AVAILABLE</strong>
{if:else}
Available
{/if}
I’ve placed it between channel entry tags, between exp:simple_commerce:purchase tags, outside, inside, off to one side, etc. It just doesn’t work. Has anyone run into this issue, or have some advice getting it to work?
Second, does anyone have advice in general on the plugin as a whole? I have my site setup on localhost, and things appear to be ok… but this whole paypal developer login convoluted mess has me scratching me head, and rethinking this whole course of action.
I understand a site needs to be live in order to test payments? correct? That kind of seems pointless, as I am going into this blind, i have no idea how, who what emails will be sent, how to deliver digital products etc. I dont want to have a non functional store, live on the site.
I now have paypal business accounts, a ton of testing accounts with over a million dollars in them, etc, but simple, it is not.
All I want to do is sell digital downloads, and supply a link to the purchaser to download the product. This should be straight forward, but the amount of time ive invested so far will require thousands of purchases just to break even on the return. and I still have made almost zero progress forward
I think the confusing part is the whole paypal ordeal and the slow developer network, and the fact it doesn’t send emails….
Has anyone, anywhere, setup digital downloads using simple commerce? I’ve all but given up at this point.
I dropped off the idea that you seems to have because SC is not for selling digital downloads. Its ment (only i think) to “sell” subscriptions…
It wont send email out of the box if you sell digital downloads, meaning: - customer wont get email and links to downloadable items - you cant have a desent records what, when and how many sold items.
and few other things that are missing from the module.
I have asked Ellislab about this and truth was, that its not for selling downloadable items.. its possible with other addons in the game but for me - too much hassle and dropped off my idea (selling photos).
