Force trailing slashes or not??

Hi

We were recently advised by an SEO company that forcing trailing slashes was the best practice (for years we had been removing them).

However I have come across a few support topics that say it is a bad idea to force trailing slashes with Expression Engine.

Thoughts welcome please.
