Accented characters being replaced in Channel Entries Excel download

EE 2.8.1. I’m downloading channel entries to an Excel file via a module (Export It). The download is fine but I get strange characters in place of where non-English accented letters should be.

For example, “España” is fine in the channel entry but in the downloaded Excel file appears as “Espa√±a”

Can anyone point me in the direction of a fix for this?
