Formatting Being Removed

I have a textarea field that I’ve assigned Auto < br / > as the formatting. This works fine when I display the field through the {exp:channel} tag, but when I grab the field through the {exp:query} tag, the < br / > tags disappear.

I’ve tried changing the formatting to none, updating all entries and then updating them again back to < br / >, it still isn’t working.

Is this normal behavior or am I missing something?
