I have decided to start doing some web work w/ a start up company a buddy is running. The site is currently set up in Expression Engine and I personally have not use EE or done web work for a long time. I am a creative cloud subscriber and currently use AE, PP, Photoshop etc for some design work. I just started with this and I am really enjoying it. I love Adobe products and was thinking that I could redo the site in Edge Animate, Dreamweaver and/or even Muse. The goal is to have a paid site, general content and also a member’s area w/ paid content. I have some experience in programming from my Computer Science days but it has been a long long time. I was just looking for some help to see if this is doable and possible get some help on a good approach to learning and doing this. Or can I create a similar style site and design using EE.

One of the things that I am having a hard time finding (still new to the site) is the ability to create flexible layouts so that our site is more easily viewed on mobile devices. Our current store is also pretty messy layout wise.

Basically the first thing to grasp is that EE is ‘transparent’ in the sense that you can design your templates in Illustrator (or whatever), code them up and slot them in to EE. You don’t actually use EE to actualise the design and, in one sense, there is not really such a thing as an EE template or ‘theme’ - unless you want there to be.

So basically, if you can code a Responsive design in a code editor then EE can implement it. Personally, regarding Responsive or Adapative (or just in general) if I was in your position I would not get too much into the Adobe ecosystem with Edge Animate or Muse but instead use the time/learning curve on Html5 and EE. Once you get up to speed with that you’ll have more flexibility and confidence for the same time-expenditure.

And yes, EE can support a site with paid/member and public content.

I am just trying to find the best route to learn how to maintain and update the site. The guy who did it had a mentor who helped him with all of the coding. I haven’t coded for probably 10 years but I did go to school for computer science so it isn’t something I can’t learn. Any recommendations on books for HTML or CSS?

“Introducing Html5” by Remy Sharp and Bruce Lawson is great for Html5. Also ” Responsive Web Design with Html5 and Css3” by Ben Frain is a good one.

The good news is that the HTML is coming back to me. I am going to just work on building the site in HTML5 and CSS3 and see how ti looks. From there I can work on getting it to work with expression engine. Thoughts?

Income can be generated by any business. The most important thing is to run it properly. A good business plan, preferably in the form of a presentation, is required for this. To make it more successful, Modern Keynote Templates - MasterBundles is recommended. After all, attracting the attention of potential investors is critical.

If you are new to web design and development I suggest you start with word press website development because it is easy from custom development. In WordPress website development you have to choose themes whether paid or free and just to change the content and images, don’t need to change the layout. You can easily learn WordPress website development through YouTube. And WordPress is user-friendly and responsive also. I also started my career as a cheap web design services provider through WordPress. And when I become familiar with WordPress then I move to custom development.
