Hi Everyone,
How do I go about installing a LOCAL copy of EE and pulling down the root / WWW directory of our current website?
Why do I want to do this?
I want to make big changes changes. Editing the content through the EE CMS is very tedious and has constraints.
I want to pull the entire root / www directory down edit locally and then paste the new changes into the CMS.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Steven,
My scenario in simpler terms is this. We got our site built by a team of developers, now that it is up and running there is lots of maintenance which I wanted to do the smaller tasks (css, etc) while leaving the more complex functionality changes to them. Using the standard CMS editor has lots of limitations and constraints in comparison to using an IDE.
They wouldn’t give me FTP access to the hosting of our website for me to download all the templates. I wanted to run a local copy of the site on my machine and when I had finished with each template I could just then copy and paste the new version in the CMS seeing as I have no FTP access.
Doesn’t matter now as we are searching a new host allowing us full access to www/root files. I don’t want to move host but they have strict security policies.
Thanks for the reply, I’ll close this post.
