Do i need mySql on my hosting package with BT

Hi All,
Very quick question, do i need to have MySql on my hosting package to run ExpressionEngine 2.
I had it working with all the products showing up but now i receieve a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.
BT Say i need mysql on my hosting package to be able to run expressionengine as it is like a database.
If someone can confirm this ASAP i will then upgrade my hosting package

Yes you do need MySQL - specifically MySQL version 4.1 or newer
