Extraxting entry title using PHP

I noticed in the database that EE stores the Entry title along with the url_tile and a number code in square brackets. Was hoping somebody could quickly show me the code for breaking this out. I am using sql to query the database. But I do not know if parsing the field with regex would be overkill.
