How can I Batch Upload files and images in EE2.2.2?

I am trying to find a way to allow a client batch upload PDF files and images through the CMS. Is there a way to do this within Control Panel? I know Channel Images will do it but is there any less expensive options as all I need is the batch upload function?

I think this should do the trick. Create a directory and upload your images and then through the control panel click synchronize the directory.
