I have a client who has her website on iWeb. I’ve been using Brilliant Retail and have ran into major issues. Right now no one can create a new account or log into the site to get their digital downloads. Brilliant Retail told me:
“The server won’t allow me to automatically set the session path via htaccess. First time I’ve seen a site hosted on iWeb (that wasn’t a personal site). I removed one of the session security checks on new registrations that I can’t seem to get around with your server configuration.
“I would consider a new host. iWeb isn’t going to be a great solution for powering an e-commerce site!”
the web host said:
“iweb enables you to setup local php.ini files if you require a specific configuration - the session data path should be configured there. As for looking for another host, while it’s true I wouldn’t attempt to run something like amazon.com on a shared vhost, I think that it’s likely more than adequate for bydesignmedia’s needs.”
I’m very stuck because I’m a designer learning code - not a coder and I don’t know much about servers either…. And my customer was impressed that the site was working so she went ahead and advertised it, and now after Brilliant Retail made some changes, it seems broken… Can anyone give me any advice? The site is at www.bydesignmedia.ca/store and even before all the problems occurred it was running very very slow….
Thanks for any advice you can give me!
Candace
Hi Candace,
Sorry to hear about the pickle you’re in.
Can anyone give me any advice? The site is at www.bydesignmedia.ca/store and even before all the problems occurred it was running very very slow….
Honestly I’d recommend you get in touch with someone who can provide consultation on moving to a new host. If your client is running a Brilliant Retail store then hopefully they’re making some form of money. If the site is slow, and in a bad environment it would be a worth investment to move them to a different host.
You can get a perfectly acceptable hosting package for pretty cheap, as long as you go to the right place and have an experienced developer or sysadmin making informed decisions and recommendations.
If your client opposed to moving to a new host?

Thanks for the Advice Erik! I ended up having to rip her site down and do a quick HTML site with PayPal buttons for now…not ideal, since I’m not quite smart enough to know how to integrate digital downloads. But I have set up some empty webspace on a regular server for testing purposes so I think I’ll move the EE site to there and test out how it runs in a new environment. Thanks again! Candace 😊

Okay, that makes more sense now. I clicked the link and couldn’t find anything EE or Brilliant retail about it :p

Sounds great! Be sure to post questions again if they arise 😊
Good luck!
