Does anyone know of an XFN field type add-on for Expression Engine 2? This functionality is built into WordPress, but would looking for EE integration.

I could have a simple blank field, where I could enter in the rel= value, but would like a more intuitive interface just like WordPress.

Why not simply use a checkbox custom field type (if you’re on EE2) and then field instructions for details on how to know which ones to tick?

@Lisa,

Thanks for the suggestion love. Unfortunately, XFNs are a little more complex in that certain options are check boxes, but certain are radio buttons. And if you choose “me” then the rest of the options should disable.

In case you don’t have a WordPress install handy, here is a screen grab:

So the current solution as noted is simply to use a blank field and have instructions beneath. But a solution such as WordPress is far more intuitive, and less error prone. If their was some plugin/field type that mimics the WordPress functionality you could assign it as a custom field anywhere you wished to enter a URL and then in your template you would have an if statement saying if user selects one of the XFN option put rel=”options here” if not don’t put rel= at all kind of thing.

I did see one old addon called LinkBuilder or something mentioned in the forums that had XFN built in, but only worked with that particular add-on rather than any custom field, and the link to it is now broken.

As XFN (and Microformats in general) have not gained a great deal of publicity yet, I imagine this isn’t available except to WordPress users, but thought I’d check!

Thanks.

I’m hazy on XFN. I used it about 5 years ago on my site, using a free-form field with a table of instructions in the field instructions. But it never really seemed to catch on, so I removed it.

You may be best simply developing your own custom field type for this. I don’t believe that I’ve seen one, though you could certainly search Devot-ee to make sure. =)

Sounds like the best option. Figured I would see what was available first and if not return my own flavor.

Wasn’t sure what the limitations of EE2 Field types were and if one could even encompass all that’s needed to replicate the functionality of WordPress. I’ll give it a whirl!

Or maybe I’ll just elicit the help you two soldiers ( Cat & Dog 😊

Look forward to seeing what you come up with, heavymark!

My guys would be happy to help by jumping on you and prancing on your keyboard while you code. If you can consider that “help”. 😉
