session object not loaded

I’m trying to develop an extension and I need the session object. However, I cannot access it.

in my constructor I have this line:

$this->EE =& get_instance();

After that I can access to a variety of objects including “input” and others but not the session.

Documentation says that session is automatically loaded. I’m not sure what I’m missing; a helping-hand will be much appreciated.
