lg Better Meta error: Extra content

I’m running EE 1.6.8 and LG Better Meta (v.1.9.0). Install is fine. Following the instructions from Leevi’s site, I have everything nearly working. I added

{exp:lg_better_meta_pl:template
    title="my homepage title"
    hide_site_title = "y"
  }

to my xml_sitemap template for the site, but I receive this:

error on line 3 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document.

If anyone has seen this error, I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks.
