Can Simple Commerce do this

Hi there, Just getting started in 2.0 and discovered the simple commerce module, and it seems like it might be able to do what I need. Basically users will register as casual members, and then will pay to become full members (which will change their member group and give access to different pages). This membership needs to expire after a set period, and they need to be automatically emailed, say 2 weeks before their membership runs out. If they dont renew, they will return to being a casual member. Can SImple commerce do this? And if not, could it be done with a few tweaks to the module files?

Also, am I correct in thinking I need to set up a channel for ‘membership types’, in which I can have entries for 1 year, 2 year and 5 year memberships, and then create ‘items’ for each of these in simple commerce?

Thanks for your help, Dave

Dave,

Basically users will register as casual members, and then will pay to become full members (which will change their member group and give access to different pages).

A combination of Simple Commerce and EE tags will give you this

This membership needs to expire after a set period, and they need to be automatically emailed, say 2 weeks before their membership runs out.

This is not a feature and will have to be custom made. Not sure is there is anything out there close to this but I can move this to the Modules forum if you want to open it up for discussion. Have you also looked on Devot-ee?

Also, am I correct in thinking I need to set up a channel for ‘membership types’, in which I can have entries for 1 year, 2 year and 5 year memberships, and then create ‘items’ for each of these in simple commerce?

Yes that would work.

Thanks John, makes sense, may as well move it to the modules forum in case anyone has any advice. I’m guessing it would need a cron job set up that runs every day to check if theres any upcoming expirations, and if so, send an email to the relevant user.

Moving as requested.

Try doing a search on the cron job idea as something rings a bell and I know there are a few older threads regarding subscriptions

Try this http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/extensions/paid-members/

That should probably do the job for you 😊

Excellent, but is that for 2.0? If not, is there anything similar for 2.0, or is it easy enough to tweak a few bits of the code to upgrade?

Not that I’m aware of by Ryan who wrote the add-on may be able to advise the changes required. If you find out I’d be interested to know what needs to be changed for it to work with 2.0 (might need it later this year).

Ryan runs devot-ee.com.

Ok will send him an email, from what I’ve seen in the forums theres quite a few people that would love something like this for 2.0 - I’d happily pay a bit for it

Just a note as I forgot to mention this but in EE 2.x the SC Module offers recurring payment options and the option of setting subscription Frequencies and extra templates.

May help here.

A great addition to EE2! 😊

Shame it’s not in EE1.6 :long:
