Weblog edit and new post doesn’t load well takes about 10 minutes

So we created a site for a client and they recently came to us and said they can’t edit one of their weblogs or post a new one. This worked just fine before and it only seems to be one but it takes like 10 to 15 minutes for the page to load, it does load and doesn’t give a blank white page so its not a memory limit issue.

I notice that the other ones load rather quickly, but still kind of slow compared to what it did before. Is there something that would over time make these take longer to load

we have Foxee, lg polls, field frame and a couple other small things.

Different addons work better with differing amounts of memory.

Have you seen: EEWiki:// HowTo Determine Memory Limits How much is allocated?

I don’t see why it would be an addon, everything was working fine and I am not getting any type of error or blank page, I set the memory_limit to 128.

You said above that it’s only one page that is doing this. If that page is using the same template as the other pages then is there anything different in the weblog entry that might be causing this?

Have you tried emptying your cache folder to see if something may have gotten stuck somewhere maybe?

Best wishes,

Mark

Did Mark’s suggestion help?

Can you turn on template debugging and even display queries? How many queries are running on that page?

How long does it take the template to parse? Is there any ee code in the entry?

Thanks, guys I think I found what it is. I am using the ngen file upload and the weblog is videos, I didn’t want the client to actually upload with it but they upload with ftp and then they have the ability to choose an existing file and can choose from any of the videos, but apparently it has an issue probably because the files are so big, I figured it just looks for the names of the files.

I guess I need to think of a different way to let them choose from a list of videos or just have them put the file name themselves. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The nGen File Upload should only store the URL reference to the file so you should be okay. That said you need to make sure that you spit out that URL inside some kind of video player so that the browser doesn’t start to just download the file and try to stream it to the page or something.

You should definitely be able to do what you want to do with that field though. Try looking at the JW Video Player.

Best wishes,

Mark

I am spitting it out on the frontend the thing that is taking 10 minutes to load is in the backend trying to edit or post a new entry. I changed the ngen file upload field to text and it loaded right away so I am thinking it has to be something with that. Were you thinking I am talking about the frontend?

Thanks Mark for you help, I really appreciate it.

Yep sorry I slightly misread when you said page above I thought you meant on the actual front-end of the site.

I think maybe the problem is coming from perhaps nGen is trying to create a thumbnail for the movie which I don’t think will ever happen. Have you tried asking Fred about it in the forums at all?

Thanks Mark for you help, I really appreciate it.

No problem at all. Any time I can help someone I will do.

Best wishes,

Mark

No but I will now, I didn’t figure this out until after your first reply.

I’ve just posted to that thread as I gave this a quick go myself with a 15MB .mov file and it seemed to work okay. Hopefully Fred will have some more ideas as to why this is happening though.

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks for the assist, Mark. Since this does look like an issue with nGen File Upload, let me move this thread to “Extensions”. Thanks.
