Fetching entry_id

Hey, I’m creating a gallery fieldtype which let’s you create a simple gallery with a dynamic length of images in it. My first stab at any third-party development for EE from scratch.

I was wondering if it’s possible to get the entry_id for a new/old entry? Information is being saved into it’s own table in the database to make sorting, deleting, etc in the gallery easier. But to be able to do that we need a reference to the entry the gallery belongs to

Any help would be appreciated!
