Ubuntu Server 9.1.0 Karmic Koala EE 1.6.8

I am an EE newbie, My site developer used image resize plugin to present one section of my site. Now I am moving the developed site to my internal ubuntu LAMP server. Everything is working but two areas. Though I have GD Lib installed and enabled the images are not showing in my presented page but the template is. Can anyone offer me a suggestion as to why this may be the case and my other item below. Are they related isssues?

the other issue is coming up on my “About Us” page.. This is throwing this info-

found it was a permissions issue on my image “sized” folder… Changed it from 755 to 777 and all is working now..

-regards to all.
