i’m developing an extension for EE 2.0 and have noticed that the hooks in EE 2.0 public beta have been restructured. i need a hook to make changes to some of the control panel pages, and while i usually would have used show_full_control_panel_end, i can’t find an equivalent in the EE 2.0 hooks.
is there an equivalent or even an alternative hook that will allow changes to control panel pages? or are any planned for the stable release?
thanks in advance!
Hi Ben,
It’s very sad, but those hooks which allow to modify CP were removed intentionally by EllisLab dev team for the reasons which seems very spurious to me
There was a forum thread discussing this issue.
I think developers should start asking EllisLab for returning these hooks back.
thanks for the reply laisvunas. i had a long read through that post and, well, i have mixed feelings. on the one hand i see derek’s point about extensions controlling logic alone and i’m happy to see that they’re working as they should in EE2.0. but on the other hand i feel that there should be some way of altering the control panel without having to change the theme view files. it seems that at the moment there is no elegant solution.
i am working on an add-on which i’ll be releasing hopefully next week. once you see it you’ll realise what problem i’m running into and how i have chosen to solve it!
I’ve just stumbled on this issue whilst doing a bit of preliminary research for an extension. Since I wasn’t in the private beta I can’t access the thread that’s linked to above, so I can’t see the arguments that have been put forward. My immediate impression is that this does feel like a step backwards. I think I might be able to make my idea work as an accessory, but it would force me into using a much less suitable UI, which is pretty disappointing.
On a semi-related note, it would be useful if the private beta forum was opened up so that everyone can access it. For one thing I keep stumbling on search results that I find I can’t access, and now that EE2 has gone public surely it’d be a Good Thing if the relevant forum posts were open to all.
