I’ve just uploaded version 1.0.3 (link at the top of the page) which “should” now be compatible with all other extensions like Publish Page Improvements. I just added a couple of lines of Javascript which updates the content of the bar with whatever is in the “submitBox” div after all the extensions have loaded. This way, even if Publish Button isn’t the last extension to load, it will still work as intended.
Please keep the comments coming if you find any other areas that need improvement.
Great stuff!
I poked about a bit and changed the animation speed, and the background color, but this is out-of-the-box sweet.
The bg shows behind Google maps and FF Matrix, but the buttons float on top. Not a huge deal, there. I tried playing w/ z-index, but it doesn’t seem to want to jump to the front.
thx!
@ContextDesign - I noticed the same thing with LG’s Image Upload extension (the icons float on top). I think it relates to two things:
It sounds as though the Playa extension has an issue with a Z-Index of greater than 2, so I don’t want to do anything to affect this but I could try and insert the code further down the page and see if that makes a difference.
Stay tuned for my next update (1.0.4) and let me know if it’s fixed these problems for you.
Thanks for this great extension which Peter showed at our Londoneers meetup last night. I’m really just subscribing so I get notified of updates to this thread, as I’m keen to see the fix for bringing the background colour bar ontop of FF matrix.
While I’m here tho’, a note for any other dunces like me out there: if at first you think it isn’t working, try testing on a long form where you can actually need the scroller. The button only pops up after you’ve scrolled so far down the page that you can no longer see the regular save button. 😖
Hey Emilyh, thanks for your interest in my extension. I’ve just posted a link to version 1.1 (beta) which is much much much better than version 1.0.3! The main highlight being the annoying scrolling animation is gone; this is largely thanks to Jarod Taylor and his jQuery extension “Meerkat” http://jarodtaylor.com/meerkat/
It “should” also now sit above everything else on your screen including FF matrix however I have only done limited browser testing on version 1.1 at this stage so please let me know if you find otherwise.
On my blog I did promise the final version of 1.1 would have a settings pages which would give people some control over how they’d like the bar to appear. I haven’t yet implemented this in the beta but if anyone has a contribution, I’ll try and work it in.
Finally, I’ve heard that this extension isn’t working with Levi’s Publish Plus. I haven’t purchased a license for Publish Plus, so if anyone does have it and is keen to test the beta, I’d love to know if some of the improvements I’ve added have addressed this issue too.
New version of Publish Beta Beta is now available (v.1.1.1). Fixes include:
You can download it from here: Publish Button Beta 1.1.1
Still doesn’t want to play nice w/ Publish Plus for me - the buttons change to Add note/Preview note. Also, it says “null” after the buttons.
This version is much less flickery, and doesn’t need any z-index tweaks to appear above everything else. 99999997 is a good way to get that done ; )
Thanks Dylan, obviously there was a bit of a coincidence in there version numbers so I had to clarify. I’d suspect that version 1.2 of Publish Plus should work fine with the current beta of Publish Button but as I don’t have a copy of Publish Plus v1.1.1, I’m unable to adjust the extension to also work with that. Hopefully you can upgrade to the latest version of Publish Plus and resolve the issue.
