One way of helping to convince a prospective client that EE is a good choice for their site (don’t need to convince me) would be to give them complete access to a working EE site. But you would probably not want to give them the ability to change things!

Since it doesn’t look like EE has the native functionality to allow the viewing – but not changing – of everything on the back end, is it possible to create an extension that disables (or removes) the “Update” and “Submit” buttons on the control panel for a certain user group?

Preferably, this would be a non-JavaScript solution, not something like “$(‘.submit’).attr(‘disabled’, ‘disabled’)” appended to the <body>.

Rick,

I suggest just cloning an install and giving them access to that.

For my prospective clients, I used GoToMeeting webconference to show them around the admin area.
