Hmm not sure I like the sound of that. I take it that means that ExpressionEngine will automatically be changing my template code for me.

Actually, I assumed it meant the legacy “weblog” tag would be supported. I’ve a hard time seeing EllisLab creating Skynet. Besides, we know when Skynet became active, and you know the EE folk don’t give release dates. 😉

    weblogs are now called channels!

That’s interesting. The EE Roadshow agenda had a talk called “Templates and Buckets: Getting Started in EE”, and I thought that perhaps “buckets” was the new name for weblogs. But “channels” is just as good or better. I wonder what the buckets are.

Templates and Buckets I think was just the name of the panel. Derek specifically pointed out that weblogs are now channels.

Hmmm… perhaps template groups are “buckets” now? 😊

    Please no buckets!!

Sheesh. Channels is enough for me to cope with. All I think of when I hear channels is people selling items on TV 😉

Buckets just makes me think of Amazon S3. I will get truly confused if they use buckets!! 😊

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Not as exciting but the CP has been tested for IE also… Hate to bring it up but I did ask Derek that.

I would expect that since 65-70% of clients are likely to be using IE.

never hurts to ask though… I know that a lot of corporate people will care so I brought it up.

    ALSO:

Derek called the Grey CP Theme the “Stuffed Shirt Theme”. I think that’s what it should be called officially!

I test everything at least two browser generations back.  So from IE6+, FF2.0+, Opera 9+, and Safari 2+...

Then one day I had to explain to a client why the site didn’t display right in their FF1.0.  Not a common problem, but I really wish all web browsers had an expire date where they would force an update, or at least nag the user every open when the software hits about two or three years old.  I wonder how this will change when HTML5 and CSS3 mature…

Anyway, I would say that 80%+ of my clients use IE6 or 7, so that should at least be functional.

Anyone have news from the EE Roadshow?  I have a new site being built 100% in CodeIgniter at the moment (a free RPG system) that I want to use EE2 for several key features (forum, wiki, etc.).  I’ve been drooling all over the site and waiting for some sort of progress report as I really don’t feel like hand coding a wiki and forum (not to mention the pretty AJAX backend).

If any of you Ellis Labs guys are gamers I’ll buy EE now and trade full color perfect bound copies of the game for a chance to beta test 2.0 😉  I’m getting close to my publishing date and I seriously don’t want to try to integrate another BB / Wiki software….

Did we just see a soft launch of the development beta? 😛

However, there is hope for new info in the near future. Rick Ellis and Derek Allard are at the EE Roadshow today and rumor has it that Allard might be demoing a little 2.0 for the attendees. If Rick and Allard talk about new 2.0 info at the Roadshow we will be sure and share it here on the blog for you next week as well.

so is there anything to see?

Or is it that we have to have something to give in order to entice a copy, such as promise of a game? 😉
