This is just a brief update to let everyone know that progress on 2.0 is going smoothly. We promised regular updates, but we aren’t going to include previews and or information with every update. For the curious, the dev team is currently working on module conversion and testing.

weblogs are now called channels!

Rick said there will be a 1.6.5 as well as a 2.0, with something called “strict URLs”.

Yeah im waiting for that 165 first.  Hopefully there is fixes that i wish =) Channels eh, hmmm. *got one idea*...

I think I must be the only person who actually loves the word weblogs. Hopefully we can change whatever is used again so that I can change it back to weblogs?

Ah good. I thought I was going mad for a while! 😉

I just feel that I got (read understood) ExpressionEngine from day one and it just gelled with me right away so I guess that’s why I’m not bothered by the word.

On the other hand I suppose it is always a problem though when people change the word to something else to make it easier for themselves and then when they are trying to explain where they are in the admin panel or something like that then problems do arise although changing the name in the new version isn’t going to stop that again either I suppose. I don’t think that there’s a 100% win win situation on this one unfortunately although there never really is when you are talking about something like this I guess.

I for one though actually like the term weblog and think that it fits really nicely for a massive majority of sites. It is after all only a word and doesn’t prevent you from doing wonderful things with the software.

Just my own personal thoughts though.

im used to word “weblog”. If every tags etc. changes i’ll go mad =) At the moment its better for me to use good old “weblog” because i finally am starting to “get inside” of EE and if weblog, as inside of EE codes is going to be something else, i feel like i start all over again.

Anyhoo, just my 0.02€ (gee, i’ve spent cyperpennies now about worth of 0.08€ here)... :lol:

While I think weblogs is fine from an implementers perspective, I have had some troubles explaining the concept to clients.

I generally refer to “weblogs” as “publishing threads” when talking to clients these days and they seem to get it right away.

Not being picky on that Leevi but when I hear ‘thread’ I immediately think of one post in a forum. That to me isn’t really a container or collection of items such as a weblog is.

I think that obviously the word isn’t important whether we use weblog, channel, thread or something else but rather explaining the concept of what it (whatever word we use) is.

That’s the hard part with some clients I reckon although to tell the truth if you set things up well enough then most clients aren’t ever going to need to understand what a weblog is in all honesty. Mainly they go into the admin panel and post an entry. You can name the weblog whatever you want and in the publish drop-down that’s really the most they are usually in most cases going to see so as long as you name those in a way that they will understand then I think that will usually cover it. Of course you can also use custom pages with SAEFs to control input too so that the client never even has to understand what a weblog is.

Just me rambling again though.

Weblog is to you now that you’re within the EE framework.  But outside of EE, weblog has a very different connotation.  Something like ‘thread’ or ‘channel’ might be easier to explain in the long run.  It’s easier to drop the connotations of ‘channel’ then it is for something like weblog.

That’s from my experience at least.

Maybe the name is changing because of CI. So you have the following: Channels, Controllers, Views, Templates, Template Groups, Models, Helpers, Plugins, Extensions, Modules and so on. So it really does fit in whether as channels.

IMHO, I do think “containers” seems a little more suitable because they do contain information.
