My one request is that you seed a copy to the more prolific developers here so they can at least get their add-ons ready (shouldn’t be difficult if the back-end is pretty much complete) and even start developing new stuff and have it ready around the time of the launch.

    Hi Steve,

Yes, we are planning a developer preview that devs can apply for prior to the public release for exactly the reason you state. When its ready we’ll announce it on the EE Blog along with application info.

    Ah good stuff 😊

    Thanks for the update, Rick.

But even more than a brilliant looking backend graphics (I really like it), I hope, that EE 2.0 will have strongly improved support for third party WYSIWYG editors like TinyMCE, FCKEditor or XStandard. This would be a big step forward.

It’s not really that hard to integrate any WYSIWYG editor into EE right now using the extension hooks. You could port LG TinyMCE to include FCKEditor or Xstandard quite easily.

If you pay me enough I’ll do it for you 😉

Only kidding. I couldn’t even start to do some of the stuff that you do. Can’t wait to see what you will do when you get your hands on the new version though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how much can be done with a step by step find and replace, to say nothing of access to both CI and EE’s libraries.

Shouldn’t all you EE-toting designers in this thread be busy designing great stuff instead of reading forums and pining after EE2?

EE 1.6.4 is, after all, really good remember?

So, go on, off you go. Back to work! 😊

Well if it can be done with find and replace then Leevi I’ll re-write them for half the cost instead. You up for that? 😉

Where’s the fun in that? I really can’t wait to get knee deep in CI and see what can be done 😊

Thanks for the update! Considering the size and nature of the project it’s important to get it right first time so waiting a little longer won’t hurt in the slightest 😊

Just wanted to echo everyone else sentiments and say thanks for the status update. As eager as I am to see what EE 2.0 holds, its worth waiting longer if the end result is a more stable, finished product. EE 1.6x is working great for my needs now and I’m sure it will continue to do so until 2.0 gets here.

Keep up the great work, and thanks for all the efforts thus far!

I had kind of expected a delay just from the lack of updates - but my pessimistic nature tends to get the better of me 😉

I’m personally excited to hear a bit more about what 2.0 will bring. I know that there has intentionally been an attempt to curb too much expectation for new features, but considering that this is a ground-up rewrite it only makes sense that some outstanding issues be taken care of at this time. I think membership is one good example - people have been asking for more robust membership features (people in multiple groups for example), and it just wouldn’t make sense to rebuild the old style membership system if there are things like that coming at some point (it touches so many aspects of the system).

Good luck with the coding guys - looks like my baby boy is going to beat 2.0 to the punch after all. That means I get time to devote solely to both, unless he gets delayed too of course 😉

Much Mahalo to Rick and Team EE!

Very much appreciate the updates and being kept in the loop as much as possible.
