And what about 1.6.5? Ha!

Yeah, that’s gonna help…
Well, the website has been updated at least.

Only 27 possible days left in summer in which to release EE 2.0. This better not be VaporWare!

But how can they possibly refuse 1000s of those puppy eyes….
...give me give give me give me…pleeeeease…I won’t ask any support questions….
LOL

Even if they do have a delay, that doesn’t make it vaporware. Vaporware is where they promise and miss multiple deadlines. They haven’t yet. For the most part they’re pretty good about meeting promises and expectations. Of course this has been at the expense of no longer revealing ambitions.
And of course, we all know we’re really waiting for 1.6.5. Any delays in shipping 2.0 can be laid at the feet of them rushing to complete this (I just know it).

Oh, thanks. It’s not bad enough I want EE2, now you’ve got me wanting a puppy-dog-eyes emoticon.

It even has a tag that says ‘EE2.O’

Thanks!

I know promises were not made but I’m bit disappointed by the delay of EE2.0. Unfortunately I will have to use WP in my projects for the upcoming season, which by the way grows faster than expected.

Ah, so EE 2 is delayed already? Who knew.

I find this a curious statement. Not that you would choose to use another piece of software for certain projects, that’s perfectly fine. But if you have sites that would be better built on EE 2.0, then they would also be better built on EE 1.x.

Well said Derek. I launched an e-commerce site using EE1 at the beginning of this month and even if EE2 had come out in May I would still not have switched over to it for this particular project as I would not want to risk it. Anything new will have a small amount of teething problems after launch that even the very best developers will not have foreseen and I would have needed to be ultra comfortable before committing to a new major version of EE. I do have a project lined up to throw at EE2 when it comes out, one that will not matter if something goes horribly wrong - yes its my own personal site…

So did I miss an announcement?
We are down to the wire, but I don’t see that anyone has missed anything yet, but it is looking unlikely a summer ship date will be possible. Announced and shipped on the same day seems unlikely, so there not much time to announce it and still ship it by end of summer.
And also, if developers have been promised copies prior, the only way I can see that happening before a summer shipping date, is if they already have it. This wouldn’t be that hard to believe. EE knows who the third party developers are. An NDA and the developers could already have a copy they can’t talk about (I honestly doubt this, but could happen).
Anyway, without an announcement to the contrary, I am still banking on summer. I also don’t care that much, since 1.6.5 and a new download area are what I really want. Heh.
Seriously, other than to play with for new features, who’s going to move to the new EE on day one? I’ll probably wait a month of three to even buy it (You know, in case any of you want to get it to me for Christmas). Sure, I want to see it, want to play with it, but unless development is significantly easier, I expect a learning curve I just don’t have to time to dedicate for now.
What would shut this speculation up is announcing the day the announcement will be made. Sort of like they did with the VP candidates. We didn’t know who they were for sure, but we had general ideas, and we knew when the announcements would be made before they were made. We kinda know what’s going to be in the new EE, so tell people when you’ll be officially revealing the features and a ship date. Maybe that’s a bad idea.

Christopher,

I agree with you there. Your statement struck me as being really over the top funny. Also, you probably already know this, but the download area has had some work done recently…
